Leonard William Metcalfe | Leonard born in 1899 in Gainsborough, the son of Thomas Banks Metcalf and his wife Mary Jane of Church St, Thornes, Wakefield. Leonard enlisted in Wakefield and became Pvte, 78814 in the 2nd Btn D.L.I. He was KIA on 15 February 1918 aged 19 and is remembered in the Red Cross Corner Cemetery, Beugny along with 219 other casualties of the First World War - 12 of the burials are unidentified and one casualty whose grave was destroyed by shell fire in 1918 is commemorated by a special memorial |
Frederick L Partington | Fred as he was known to his family was born in Outwood in 1894 to John and Hannah who at the time lived at 4 Paradise Row, Bridge St, Wakefield - by 1919 John and Hannah were living at 1 Paradise Row. Fred served as Gunner 73066 in the RFA, he died on 3 September 1919 and rests in Wakefield City Cemetery. |

William at the time worked as a brewers labourer and was the father of 3 sons. Also in the house was a Thomas Slack aged 25. George served as a Wireless Operator in the Mercantile Marine service on the S. S. Isleworth out of London. He died on 30 April 1918 aged 19 and is remembered on the Tower Hill Memorial |
