I have recently been searching for Nelson St in 1841. For the benefit of anyone else looking for this and New St. It would seem that they were in the Belle Vue area, off Doncaster Road and either on the Wakefield Cemetry site or just across from this. There is also mention of Quakers Yard, and a Quaker buriel ground in this area with some sort of Quaker monument in the area.
The reason I want to share this, is that anyone living in this area, or in Quaker houses, will more than likely be found in Quaker records.
If I am wrong please tell me, it's just that I have trawled the internet, and also found some stuff on this site.
I hope I can save others some time.
Denise.

Quaker Houses or Quakers Yard is nearly opposite Wakefield Cemetery on the Doncaster road.

On multimap the aoorix area of Quakers Houses / Yard / Burial Ground is between Denmark st on the cemetery side and Clarion Street on the Burial Ground side.

All that is left is the meeting house (last time a new was used as a limo business) and the burial ground is behind a low round topped stone wall with a central path. You can see slight mounds in the grass but no headstones - looks a little sorry for itself at the moment though.

Oh, by the way one of my lot lived in Quaker Houses, but were not Quakers.

Carol

Hi ... I know this is somewhat late, but I've only just spotted this post .... I would like to share my knowledge of Nelson Street and New Street.

They weren't in the Belle Vue area. New Street was off Northgate ... in fact the turn-off for the street is exactly where Union Street and the New Market Hall are now. New Street went from Westmoreland Street and it ended at Savile Street, before the Marsh Way was built.

If you go onto Facebook and look for either groups;

Wakefield Historical Appreciation Site
Waccenfeld - Ye Olde Wakefield

Both groups will be of great help to you in this cause.
