Fred Coultous | Fred was born in North or South Cave (sources differ), the son of Fred and Emma, who later lived at Rosedene Gilberdyke. By the time of his enlistment Fred lived in Beverley. He enlisted becoming Pte 36927 in the Essex Regiment. Fred died on 28 November 1918 aged 28 and he rests in Cairo War Memorial Cemetery. Fred rests with over 2400 other casualties including over 300 from WW2. During WW1 Cairo became the hospital centre for the Gallipolo battles. |

Ernest Hight | Arthur Ernest Hight was born in North Cave in 1897, the son of John and Annie Maria who later lived at Manor Farm Shiptonthorpe. Arthur or by the looking at the memorial he must have been known locally as Ernest, enlisted in Beverley where he became Pte 35897 in the Northumberland Fusiliers. He died of wounds on 12 october 1917 aged just 20 and he rests in Solferino Farm Cemetery, Belgium along with over 300 young men from both World Wars. |
