S T Duncan Batty	Samuel Thomas Duncan Batty was the son of Arthur (?) and Jane Batty - the family were living at Springfield Lane in 1901 and Arthur (?) was a Registrar for Birth and Deaths and an Asst. Overseer. Samuel enlisted into the West Yorkshrire Regt, in Leeds as no 15/126, but was KIA on 1 July 1906 and is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial
Louis B Bedford	Louis or Lewis as he is called on some sources was the son of James, a market gardener and Louisa Ann, who in 1901 were living at Westbury Terrace. Hunslet. By 1916 Louisa had now married a Lunn and was living at Haigh Avenue, Wood Lane, Rothwell. Louis enlisted in Wakefield into the Yorks LI no 6150 but was later in the MGC no 81808 but died of wounds on 25 April 1917 aged 22 and is remembered at Warlincourt Halte British Cemetery, Saulty, near Arrass along with 1,285 others including 29 German and French casualties.
William Benton	Possibly ~ William Benton, son of Jonas and Emma who in 1901 were living at 23 Wood Lane. He could have been a member of the W. Y Regiment who died on 11 October 1918 and is remembered at Iwuy Communal Cemetery near Cambrai.
Walter Bennett	Walter enlisted in Leeds into the R E's, 132737 and was with the 177th Tunneling Coy. Walter was KIA on 30 November 1915 and is remembered at the Menin Road South Military Cemetery. Walter was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth who in 1901 were living at Marsh Street, Rothwell.
Edward A Blacker	Edward Arthur was the son of Arthur and Ann Blacker who in 1918 were living at Garnet Terrace, Dewsbury Road, Leeds. Edward enlisted in York - joining the Prince of Wales's Own, no 37786. He died on 5 November 1918 aged 21 and is buried at Schoonselhof Cemetery, Antwerpen, along with over 1,500 others

Arthur Blackburn	Arthur in 1901 was living with his parents, Robert and Hannah and siblings in Main Street, Rothwell. Arthur was 21 being born in 1882 and a coal hewer like his father. . By 1918 Arthur had married Carrie and was living in Chapel St, Rothwell. Arthur enlisted in Rothwell, joining the West Yorkshire Regt. no 77822 and died on 2 October 1918 in England. He is buried in Holy Trinity Churchyard, Rothwell along with 4 other casualties
George Blackburn	George was the son of George and Emma who in 1901 were living at Whiteley Buildings. George, like his father worked at the local coal mine. George married Esther by 1916 and they were living at Coronation Yard, Carlton - next door to his parents. George enlisted into the Prince of Wales's Own no 21900. He was KIA on 1 July 1916 aged 33 and is like many others, remembered on the Thiepval Memorial.
John Wm Blackburn	John William was born in Rothwell and enlisted in Leeds, joining the Prince of Wales's Own no 306327. He was KIA on 13 August 1918 and is remembered at Cerisy-Gailly Military Cemetery, near Albert and is remembered along with 631 other casualties.
Charles Booth	Charles was born in 1877 and by 1916 had married and lived at Hollinhurst, Woodlesford. Charles enlisted in Leeds, joining the Prince of Wales's Own no 16246. He was KIA on 14 July 1916 aged 39 and is remembered at the Thiepval Memorial.
Harry Booth	Harry born in 1884 was the son of Reuben and Sarah who, in 1901 were living in Chapel St, Carlton. Also, in the household were Harry's brother Clifford aged 4, his grandmother Sarah aged 78 and Reuben's brother Frederick. Harry by 1918 had married Mary Ann and they were also living in the same street as his parents. He enlisted in Pontefract, joining the Loyal North Lancashire Regt., no 30216. He died of wounds on 31 May 1918 and is remembered at Bagneux British Cemetery, Gezincourt.
Ernest Bowers	Ernest was the son of Robert Bowers and the husband of Ada of Town Street, Carlton. Ernest was born in Bradford and enlisted in Wakefield, joining the KOYLI no 15422. He was KIA on 1 October 1916 aged 33 and is remembered along with many other on the Thiepval Memorial
Charlie Briggs	Charlie was the son of T B and S Briggs of Rothwell and the husband of Olive who lived at Penny Bank Street, Carlton Lane, Rothwell. He joined the Prince of Wales's Own no 306486 and was KIA on 20 July 1918 aged 26 and is remembered at Marvaux British Cemetery.

Tom Clarkson	Tom was the son of William Henry and Agnes Clarkson of 30 Recreation Crescent, Holbeck, Leeds. He died of wounds on 12 July 1916 aged 17. He served in the West Yorkshire Regiment, The Leeds Pals. He is buried in Holbeck Cemetery, Leeds
Henry Clarkson	Henry in 1901 was living with his grandparents, John William and Sarah, along with 8 of his aunts and uncles at Castlegate, Carlton. By 1918 Henry was still with his grandparents who were now at Low Royds Green, Woodlesford. Henry enlisted in Pontefract where he joined the KOYLI no 53281. He was KIA on 18 September 1918 aged only 19 and he is remembered at Vis-en-Artois Memorial, near Arras. He is remembered along with nearly 10,000 other casualties.

Frank R Dobson	Frank Rayner Dobson was the son of John and Sarah Jane Dobson of Carlton. In 1901 the family, including Franks, brother and sisters were living at Ouzlewell Green - John being a farmer. By 1918 the family were at Green End Farm, Carlton. Frank joined the York and Lancaster Regiment and became a 2nd Lieut. He was KIA on 28 October 1918 aged 30. He is remembered at Pont-D'Achelles Military Cemetery, Nieppe

Fred Firth	Fred was the son of Albert and Jemina Firth of Rothwell. In 1901 the family of 12 were living in Holmes Street - Albert being a labourer in the local coal mine. Fed at this time was only 4 and had 3 younger siblings. Fred enlisted in Leeds, joining the Royal Horse and Royal Field Artilliery, Cpl., 88805. He died on 5 September 1918 aged 22 and he is remembered at Terlincthun British Cemetery, Wimille.
James Fox	James was the son of Richard and Jane Ann Fox who in 1901 were living at 3 Waggon Yard, Rothwell with 5 children. Richard worked at the local coal mine. William Fox and his family lived next door at no. 4. James enlisted in Wakefield - joining the Grenadier Guards as Gdsn 26369. He was KIA on 14 July 1917 aged 20. He is remembered at Bleuet Farm Cemetery near Ypres. He lied alongside 441 casualties from The Great War and 9 casualties from the Allied Retreat to Dunkirk in May of 1940.

He was KIA on 1 July 1917 and is remembered at Serre Road Cemetery No. 2. He lied along with over 7,000 casualties of these 4,944 are Known only to their God.

Joseph C Heaton	Joseph Copley Heaton born 1897, was the son of Charles and Sarah Ann Heaton, who in 1901 were living at Cross Street, Rothwell. Charles was a butcher. Joseph enlisted in Colsterdale, where the Leeds Pals trained. He joined the Prince of Wales's Own and became Pte., 15/1681. He was KIA on 11 July 1916 and is remembered at the Thiepval Memorial

Leonard Johnson	Leonard was the son of William and Agnes Johnson. In 1901 William and Agnes were living at John O' Gaunts with their 7 children. William was a street lamplighter and his boys worked as either :- quarrymen, cowman, drapers erand boy, Leonard was a market gardener, only Agnes aged 10 did not work. Leonard enlisted into the KOYLI as Pte., 30021 and on the 9 March 1819 died. He is remembered at the Cologne Southern Cemetery, Germany and lies alongside 3294 known and unknown casualties.
John H Judson	John Herbert Judson was the son of John and Eliza. When the 1901 census was taken Eliza was a widow with Elizabeth, 18 ; John Herbert, 16 ; Selwyn Abraham, 9 and Andrew Chadwick, brother ( Eliza's brother) who was living on his own means. John Herbert enlisted into the Alexandra, Princess of Wales's Own as Cpl., 20707. He died of wounds aged 31 on 3 July 1916 and is remembered at La Neuville British Cemetery, Corbie.

Thomas Wm Lake	Thomas William in 1901 was living at Cone (?) Street with his parents Samuel, a Canal Carrier, and Mary plus his siblings Sarah, Annie and Alice. He enlisted in Leeds, joining the Prince of Wales's Own as Pte., 15/565. He was KIA on 1 July 1916 and is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial, along with many others who gave the supreme sacrifice on The First Day of the Battle of The Somme.

Allen Longley	Allen was the son of Richard Allen Longley and Gertruce Maud who in 1901 were living at Fielton (?) Street, Rothwell. Richard was a gardener and the family consisted of Richard, Gertruce, Emily aged 7 and Allen 6. Allen enlisted in Wakefield, joining the KOYLI as Pte 47484. He was KIA on 23 April 1918 aged 22. He is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial. By this time his parents were now living at the White Hart Hotel, Adwalton, Drighlington.

Alven Idle	Alven was the son of Mr Alfred and Mrs C O Idle of Rothwell. He served in the KOYLI as L/Cpl., 4534639. He died on 16 July 1944 aged 33 and is remembered at St Manview War Cemetery, Cheux.
Jack Idle	Possibly, the brother of Alven. Jack was the son of Alfred and Cissy Idle of Rothwell. He served in the RA no 870467. He died on 19 December 1941 aged 22 and is remembered at the Sai Wan Memorial, Cape Collinson Road in the north east of Hong Kong Island. He lies with over 2000 identified casualties following the fall of Hong Kong on Christmas Day 1941.

Harold Hy Abbishaw	Harold Henry was the son of Joseph Clayton and Emily of 7 Railway Terrace, Rothwell. Harrold enlisted into the Royal Scots Fusiliers, no 19147 in Leeds. He was KIA on 5 June 1917 aged 23 and is remembered on the Arras Memorial.
Harry Abel	Harry Abel was born in Wakefield, although he lived in Rothwell. He enlisted into the Lincolnshire Regt., no. 51685. He was KIA on 15 April 1918 and is rememberd at the Ploegsteert Memorial. He was possibly the son of William and Ellen who in 1901 were living in Hunslet.
James Wm Andrews	James William was, according to the census, born in Stanley, other sources have his birth place as Rothwell where he enlisted. James joined the KOYLI as no 12/3. He was KIA on 1 July 1917 aged 23 and is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial. The CWGC details say that James' mother was Elizabeth, living at Haigh road in 1916 When looking on the 1901 census you see that his father was called George and he was a colliery blacksmith. James, parents and 5 siblings were living at Victoria Avenue, Rothwell
Arthur Wm Armitage	Arthur William was the son of James and Mary Elizabeth Armitage who in 1901 lived at Royds Farm. James was a starch merchant. By 1916 the family had moved to 'Clova' Harlow Oval, Harrogate. Arthur joined the KOYLI and was KIA on 1 October 1916 aged 28. He is remembered at Adanac MIlitary Cemetery, Miraumont near Albert along with 1477 other identified casualties and over 1700 who are 'known only unto God'.
Eric Armitage	Eric was the son of Georgen and Annie Elizabeth of Westfield House, Rothwell. He served in the Royal Flying Corps., as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was killed aged 19 on 4 October 1917 and is buried at Izel-Le-Hameau Communal Cemetery. And lied with 6 other Commonwealth casualties. He is also remembered in the local churchyard on the family headstone
John E Baines	Possibly ~ a member of the Royal Horse Artillery, no 77850, who died on 26 May 1915 and is remembered at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery.
Selwyn Baines	Selwyn, the son of Albert Edward and Julia who in 1901 were living at Springfield Place, Rothwell with Selwyn's brother and sister. Selwyn enlisted in Rothwell, joining the KOYLI no 25574. He was KIA aged 20 and is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial along with over 72,000 others
Harry Barratt	Harry was the son of Harry and Eliza who in 1901 were living at Simpson Street, East Ardsley - Harry being one of 3 children and 4 boarders living the household. Harry and the boarders all worked on the nearby railway. Harry joined the KOSB no 20493 but was later moved to the MGC no 143606. He died of wounds on 10 April 1918 aged 25 and is remembered at La Kreule Military Cemetery, Hazebrouck along with 576 Commonwealth casualties and 11 German. At this time his parents were living at Ida View, Stourton, previously living in Rothwell.
