AB A Archer RN | Arthur Archer was the son of Thomas and Frances who in 1901 were living in Thorp Arch with their family of 10 children aged between 2 months and 13. Arthur during WW1 served as Pte PO/16725 in the Royal Marine Light Infantry onboard HMS Bayano. He died on 13 March 1915 and has no known grave and is therefore remembered on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial along with over 24,500 other members of the Royal Naval services whose final resting place is known only unto their God |
L/c E Dickenson 10th RWF | Ernest was the son of James and Sarah Dickenson who in 1901 were living in Walsall, the town of Ernests birth. James was a pawnbroker and clothier working on his own account. Ernest Clark Dickenson enlisted in Boston Spa where he joined the RASC as 187420, later moving to the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and becoming L/Cpl 60228. He died of wounds on 27 September 1917 and is remembered in Dozinghem Military Cemetery. Ernest left a wife who lived in Regent Avenue, Harrogate. |
Lt A Griffith 2nd Dorset R | Allix James William Griffith was the son of the Rev. Henry Wager and Eleanor Eva Griffith of Thorp Arch Vicarage. He served in the Dorsetshire Regiment as a 2/Lieut. He was wounded at St Eloi in 1915 but died on 25 March 1917 aged 22 and is remembered on the Basra Memorial |
